So I was supposed to do a sneak peek last week, but then completely forgot about it. Sorry about that! Despite the stubborn rain on the day, Jane & Michael’s wedding at Botleys Mansion in Surrey was the perfect kind of relaxed and joyous affair, which I adore being a part of. Add to that influences from Jane’s Korean roots, and you have a day that adds up to pretty special indeed. And what with Jane being a complete knock-out, these frames instantly caught my eye when backing up the images. Hopefully I can show you some more next week(ish)!
Alexis & Jack | Engagement
What can I say… I love my job at the best of times, but sometimes I just have to pinch myself. Sometimes I feel knocked sideways by the amazingness of it all. Especially at times when I get to hang out with incredible people such as Alexis and Jack, who are just so completely open, and so full of love for each other that it practically hits you in the face when you catch a glimpse of it. How privileged do I feel to be able to witness and document such a beautiful thing.
Alexis, who is like a little ball of positive energy and good vibes, runs a wedding blog called Omg I’m getting married! (a site every bit as vibrant as her personality) and as a result the wedding she’s planning is going to be, in a word, E-P-I-C. I get all impatient just thinking about it!
For their engagement session Alexis & Jack wanted to head to London’s Chinatown. They met while they were both living in Hong Kong, so this part of town feels very homely to them. It was pretty perfect. The hustle and bustle, the delicious smells all around, the sun (oh, the sun!) – it was aaall good.
Thank you so much Alexis and Jack, for giving so willingly and for trusting the process, even when I told you to sit in the middle of a busy street! Love you guys.
P.S. Last but not least, can you all join together in singing Happy Birthday to Alexis as it is indeed her big day today!
In the mood for love
Well, I can’t let Valentine’s Day pass me by without a mention! Whether you feel the whole concept of the day is over-commercialised, over-schmaltzy or overly cruel to the single population, I think it has a valid place in the world. I don’t think it’s such a bad idea that at least once a year we are forced to think about the people who are dearest to us, whether they were our husbands, wives, lovers or best friends. It’s easy to forget to nurture those connections in every day life and start taking what’s most precious to us for granted. If you (even begrudgingly) only do one thing today, let it be being truly present for someone you love. I promise you it’s a win-win situation.
‘The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.’
P.S. More from Alexis & Jack’s amazing engagement session a bit later on.
Phil & Christian | Civil Partnership
There’s no two ways about it, Phil & Christian’s Civil Partnership at the Gherkin was the perfect way to kick off the new year. The day started at Andaz Liverpool Street where the boys and their families were getting ready. Everyone was in such high spirits and you couldn’t detect even a hit of nerves, but you could feel the excitement building as the big moment drew closer and we made our way to St Mary Axe at the top of the Gherkin. What followed was a truly moving ceremony, with the whole room filled with such joy.
Yes Events made sure that everything looked absolutely amazing and ran smoothly, and Rebel Rebel had created the most incredible flowers, which transformed the space completely and accentuated the incredible views. There was such attention to detail with every aspect of the day, not least with the out-of-this-world bespoke wedding cake, featuring Phil & Chris’ three cats, created by Choccywoccydoodah – it truly was a work of art.
One of the most memorable moments of the day caught me a bit off guard. The boys had me completely fooled earlier, assuring me there would be no ‘proper’ first dance, as they would rather everyone just got on the dance floor together right from the start. It takes a lot to surprise me, but when after the cake cutting they went straight into a surprise dance routine, choreographed to Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights, I was pretty much gobsmacked! Now there’s a first dance I won’t forget in a hurry.
There ain’t no party like a Wedding Smashers party is a fact that gets proven every time I have the pleasure of working with this amazing team of DJs, and as always, they had the dance floor heaving right from the start. And from what I hear, that’s the way it stayed until the end of the night.
I’m so happy we got to be a part of this incredible day. Thank you so much Phil & Chris, you do know how to throw a party!
Hello world
Hey hey, it’s been a while! During the past month I’ve had some precious time to myself in order to prepare for all that’s coming my way this year. At the end of last year we moved house & office, and it’s only now that all the work we’ve put in updating the place is starting to take shape. I am especially excited about my new office. I have so much more space to work in and for inspiration to flow, it really does make a huge difference to your productivity!
I’ve also had some time to get properly organised in other areas, such as catching up with all the more ‘boring’ aspects of running a business (oh how I sometimes wish I could just take pictures and not bother with the rest!) like filing and book-keeping. I am currently emigrating all my client data and invoicing etc. over to a new studio management system, which is something that is long overdue, and will hopefully make a huge difference with trying to keep up with new enquiries and existing clients alike. Setting it all up is very time-consuming indeed, but hopefully well worth it in the end.
Talking about taking pictures, next Saturday is the day that we officially kick off the new season with a civil partnership at the Gherkin. My gear is all cleaned and gleaming, my heart feels light and ready to take on new people and experiences. Watch out 2011, I’m coming!
