Greetings from Scotland! Isla & Ewan’s stunning wedding in Aberdeenshire was an absolute blast, and I just had to share a few sneaks. I really can’t wait to get stuck into the rest of the images. But first I’ll have to finish editing a wedding from the previous week, which was held at the National History Museum in London. It kind of blows my mind that getting to share in these amazing, and yet all so different, days is actually what I do for a living. Just, wow.
Rachel & Andy got in touch with me as their wedding photographer (the amazing Nikole Ramsay) relocated to Australia before they had a chance to do an engagement sessions with her. Luckily Nikole is coming back to the UK to cover the wedding, but I had the pleasure of stepping in and doing an engagement session with Rachel and Andy, which was an honour and a pleasure.
We did the session in one of my favourite places, Richmond, diving our time between the area around Richmond green and Richmond Park. By the time we got up to the park the weather suddenly turned super chilly, but luckily that didn’t have any effect on the warmth Rachel & Andy were giving out. It was so lovely getting to know this sweet couple, I really truly treasure all these moments where I get a glimpse into what people are truly about. Thank you Rachel & Andy, I hope your wedding day will be absolutely beautiful! x
I first met Saleema & David what now seems like ages ago, when they booked me for their June 2011 wedding two years in advance. We’ve been meaning to do their engagement session ever since then, with the possible location changing more times than I can count. In the end we settled on doing the session in Vienna, as that’s where Saleema & David currently live. It was a bit of a fly-by visit for me, flying in in the morning and back home in the evening, but well worth it. It was so nice hanging out with these two beautiful people, and I absolutely loved Vienna (the night before I got so excited about the prospect of reliving one of my favourite movies, Before Sunrise, that I hardly got any sleep! :D), I will definitely be returning for a longer visit one day.
I can’t wait for Saleema & David’s London wedding in June, and will definitely be keeping an eye on Saleema’s blog in order to see what kind of things she has planned for the big day.
P.S. I’m so kicking myself right now for not having any of that mouthwatering cake!
I hope you’re all having a lovely start to a new week! You might have noticed that my website has had a bit of a polish and is wearing new pretty graphics (if something is looking wonky, you might want to refresh your browser). The structure of the main site or the blog hasn’t really changed that much, as I’m a great believer in ‘if it’s not broken don’t fix it’, but for a long time I’ve been feeling that the overall design lacked some personality and femininity.
When it comes to the blog, while I appreciate that all sort of fancy sideways-scrolling cartwheel-spinning visual feasts are nice to look at, I’m such an old skool blogger at heart, that for me blogs need to first and foremost work as a reference library. Hence you will always find different ways to browse content, and links to archives, on my blog. Even if it doesn’t look as sleek as some other ways of presenting blogs, content will always be king in this particular one.
A huge thank you to Sabina from Design Garden, who created the beautiful graphics for me (I wanted something feminine, fun and reflecting my love of DIY) and Paul Thompson (who still after 10 years of coding my websites doesn’t have a site of his own), who implemented the changes.
So, do have a browse and take in the new look, I really hope you’ll like it! I appreciate all feedback you might have. In fact, at the end of the week I will draw two random people who comment on this post from the hat and send them a little surprise.
The last time I was at the Union Chapel was when I was there to see one of my all time favourite artists, Heather Nova, perform. I’ve always associated the place more with gigs than with weddings, so it was a real treat to actually be working at this beautiful and legendary venue for Jessica & Alex’s wedding. They knew in advance that the outside of Union Chapel would be covered in scaffolding at the time of their wedding, but decided to go with it in any case as it is a special place for them too. And I have to agree with their decision, it was a magical feeling inside with sunlight pouring through the windows and the glorious ceiling of the chapel spreading over us. Just, wow.
No words can describe how stunning Jessica looked when she walked down the isle in her gorgeous gown from Imagine Bridal Couture. Like really, she looked like a movie star. The ceremony was equally beautiful and had a truly special feel about it. And even though this was the first time for me working up on a stage (I was sure I was going to either fall off it, through it, or at the least on my face on the unsteady surface), I managed to make it through without any major injury. Result!
After the ceremony and some portraits next to the chapel, we headed to the reception at The Old Finsbury Town Hall. Wow, talk about a stunning location for a wedding breakfast! I only wish I would have had a few more minutes of daylight to really explore all the lovely old textures of the beautiful hall. Angel Flowers in Islington created the beautiful flower arrangements (and what was one of my favourite bouquets ever, sooo pretty!). And omg, every wedding should have fish & chips! Although I have to say the delicious smell was driving us who were working a little bit delirious.
A huge thank you to Susanna for assisting, and to Helen from Helen Carter Weddings (assisted by the lovely Andri from Always Andri Wedding Design) for making the tightly-packed day run as smoothly as possible, it was a pleasure working with you girls.
And of course, a massive thank you to Jessica & Alex for allowing us to join you on your day, and giving us an opportunity to experience working in such amazing venues, it was truly unforgettable!
